Dr Seema Safia Arif
Consultant Clinical Oncologist, Velindre Cancer Centre
MBBS, MRCP, FRCR, PGCME
Seema Arif is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Velindre Cancer Centre, Cardiff, UK, specialises in Upper and lower GI cancers and is lead local investigator for a number of clinical trials in these areas. She graduated from Jawaharlal Medical College in Belgaum, India and completed her post graduate training in the UK. She completed MRCP in Internal Medicine thereafter specialised in Oncology. Seema started her oncology career at the St Thomas’ Hospital, London followed by Western General Hospital, Edinburgh and completed her training in Velindre Cancer Centre, Cardiff. Seema did a Radiation Oncology Fellowship with Professor Brian O’Sullivan and Professor Bernard Cummings at the prestigious Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto after which she took up a consultant post in Cardiff. Seema used these skills and knowledge to set up the first Liver SBRT clinical service in Wales.
Seema has completed a degree in Medical Education from Cardiff University. She has been a Cardiff FRCR Course faculty member since 2008 and has a keen interest in International Educational Collaboration, especially with India where her roots are from. She started the Cardiff FRCR 2 course International day which introduces UK cancer management pathways, communication and presentation skills to non- UK trainees taking the FRCR exam.
Seema’s connections and negotiations with TATA Medical Centre, Kolkata have been pivotal in the launch of the first Cardiff FRCR 2 course in India in May 2019. She is very keen to expand these International Educational Collaborations with TMC Kolkata in terms of Research, Fellowships & exchange Programmes and introducing communication skills in medical schools in India. She is presently clinical lead for the Moondance funded Advanced Radiotherapy Fellowship Programme at Velindre Cancer Centre.

Professor Tom Crosby
Cancer Clinical Director for Wales
Consultant Clinical Oncologist, Velindre Cancer Centre

Tom is a Consultant Oncologist in Velindre Cancer Centre, specialising in Upper GI cancer since 2008.
As clinical lead for the Wales Cancer Network Tom lead the development of the Cancer Delivery Plan 2016-20, Peer Review of Cancer Services in Wales and the Cancer Implementation Group’s prioritisation programme including the development of Cancer Prevention, Early Diagnosis, Person Centred Care and Cancer Information Subgroups. He is also helping to lead the development a new Cancer Research Strategy for Wales and a new Velindre Cancer |Centre in Cardiff. He currently leads a priority initiative in Wales: the Single Cancer Pathway which looks to transform patient pathways from referral, through diagnosis to treatment.
Tom is a leader in Upper GI Oesophageal Chemo-radiotherapy Research, Service and Development in the UK. He is Chief Investigator to the series of UK Multi-centre SCOPE trials (SCOPE1, NeoSCOPE and SCOPE2). He was the recent Chair of the NCRI OG Cancer Subgroup.
He was Lead of the inaugural RCR Site Oriented e-Network and is the current Welsh and Oncology Lead for the UK National Oesophago-Gastric Cancer Audit.
Tom has been an examiner for the Royal College Radiologists Part 2 Exam and is the Chair of the Cardiff FRCR 2 Course a lead author of the textbook Practical Clinical Oncology (Cambridge University Press).
Tom is currently the clinical lead for the Transformation of Cancer Services Programme in South East Wales. This ambitious programme will seek to develop a new world class Velindre Cancer Centre and redesign the clinical service model to meet the demands of future care and improve outcomes for patients.
Tom has recently been recognised for his service to cancer services in Wales and the UK with the award of an honorary Professorship by Cardiff University and an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list and is now the National Clinical Director of Cancer for Wales.

Dr Martin Rolles
Consultant Clinical Oncologist, South West Wales Cancer Centre, Swansea

Martin Rolles is a Clinical Oncologist specialising in Head & Neck Cancer, and Breast Cancer. He is the Cancer Lead for Swansea Bay University Health Board, and chair of the Wales Cancer Network Clinical Reference Group. He also chairs the Welsh Scientific Advisory Committee, and the All-Wales PBT, PET, and Molecular Radiotherapy Advisory Groups.
Martin sits on of the Council of the Royal College of Radiologists, and is a member of the RCR Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee.
After taking a degree in Zoology at the University of Bristol, Martin read medicine at the University of Wales, returning after specialist training in Wessex and Vancouver.

Dr Paul Shaw
Consultant Clinical Oncologist, Velindre Cancer Centre
Dr Shaw is a Clinical Oncologist with previous experience in the treatment of UGI and Anal cancers, and latterly now focusses on Thoracic malignancies. Paul completed Specialist Training in Palliative Medicine in 2002 prior to training in Oncology in South Wales, and enjoys combining this expertise in his daily practice. Paul was CRUK Bobby Moore Clinical Research Fellow in Prof Alan Clarkes lab 2006-2010 becoming familiar with genetically engineered models of cancer (PhD awarded) and subsequent 3D organoid technology. He has supervised a number of Cardiff University PhD students since this time most recently examining Drug RT combinations in NSCLC and immunological aspects of Mesothelioma. Paul is the clinical lead for Early Phase Drug Radiation studies at VUNHST and has been involved with CRUK sponsored trials in Oesophageal Cancer and is Co-Investigator for the CONCORDE platform study in NSCLC. He is Co-CI of the UK HITMESO trial studying the role of Proton therapy in pleural mesothelioma.

Dr Carys Morgan
Consultant Clinical Oncologist, Velindre Cancer Centre
MBChB, MRCP, FRCR
Dr Morgan is a clinical oncologist in Velindre Cancer centre with over 10 years’ experience specialising in the treatment of oesophagogastric cancer, neuroendocrine tumours and gastrointestinal stromal tumours with an particular interest in delivery of oesophageal chemoradiotherapy. Alongside her clinical work, she is upper GI cancer lead for the Wales Cancer Network currently focusing on UGI pathway improvement and equity of access to high quality research for patients in Wales.
